Pollinator Garden Rain Barrel

April 30, 2020

The students have been working for a few months to plan their project for improving the schoolyard habitat at Pierremont Elementary. They conducted a survey to understand what wildlife was present or missing on campus. The lack of pollinators and their importance to the ecosystem was the students reasoning for choosing to plant a large pollinator garden full of Missouri native species to provide nutrition and shelter to birds, bees, butterflies, and other organisms. The students have been inviting guest speakers to teach them more about Missouri native pollinator gardens and species and have taken soil samples to analyze. The gardening tools and rain barrel will allow the students to plant and maintain their garden. The learning will continue with many students at Pierremont who will be able to use this garden to learn about pollinators and see them in action.
