A GARDEN TOUR
The design layout for this garden established a romantic classical
sensibility with the juxtaposition of precise geometry and natural
materials.
This secluded garden space is sheltered within the parameters
of a privacy fence, an entrance arbour & existing mature conifers.
A sequence of functional spaces was created where one could entertain,
relax or simply enjoy the view of the garden. The existing 2nd
storey deck was maintained for the barbeque area and functions
as a viewing point to the garden below. The central gathering
space of the lower patio was accentuated with a circular motif
of square-cut flagstone carved into the tumbled pavers. Clipped
yew hedges mirror this circular geometry. A raised level, tucked
at the back of the garden, adjacent to the upper deck was maintained.
This intriguing space is emphasized with arching stone walls and
steps, framed with flowering shrubs on either side. This corner
of the garden elevates into a rich landing of square flagstone
& greenery providing an intimate & secluded sitting space.
The layout of the paving materials delineates the various garden
areas & establishes a sense of transition between them. The
geometry of the paving patterns also creates a dynamic flow &
contrast with the soft landscape throughout the garden.
The entrance arbour brings architectural detail & presence
to the entrance of this private haven. The new fence steps with
the change of grade around the perimeters of this garden. The
uniform colour of the fence, gate & lower portion of the deck
unifies the garden and creates a solid backdrop for the plants.
The subtle and predominate green tones of the planting materials
simplify the garden and allow for a spectacular show of their
flowers when in bloom. Ample space is provided along the front
of the planting beds for a splash of annual colour.
