Green Apple Day of Service Whole Foods Garden improvements
Green Apple Day of Service Whole Foods Garden improvements
Our first project is our blueberry Garden. We have received a Whole Foods Grant for our garden and we will be building six raised beds as well as a chicken wire cover for the garden. This will also involve adding soil to all the beds.
Our second project is revisions to our existing raised bed gardens that include removing debris, painting the beds, filling with soil and adding mulch.
We have an extensive outdoor classroom that requires debris clean up and revision. This will include improvements to the outdoor seating area, and clean up of tree limbs and debris from our last hurricane, as well as invasive plant removal.
Finally, we are revising our two raised beds for first grade. We will be building two concrete block raised beds and removing the existing wood beds (woodrot).

Thanks to Whole Foods Kids who provided our grant funds, University of North Florida Women of Construction Club, E.W. Dunn Engineering, Mulcmasters Inc., Osana Construction and our many volunteers. We were able to update our extensive gardens and add our blueberry garden. This program is part of a school gardening program that provides education about nutrition, as well as a service project for providing food for our neighbors at Harbor House and the Christ the King Convent. We also refurbished our outdoor classroom which is used year round for environmental education and various STREAM projects.
