Taking Down the Classroom Walls - It's Time to Teach Outside!
Following the culmination of Phase One (hardscape) and Two (student engagement features) of the newly built Washburn Outdoor Classroom - it's time for Phase Three. Training teachers to teach outside. Working with lead teachers on-site and bringing in outdoor teaching experts, we'll host an outdoor learning day where each student and teacher will move through stations in the outdoor classroom to learn to how adjust curriculum and address student behavior and engagement without the tradition of four walls. Through hands on learning for both student and teacher we will aim to grow environmental literacy while providing support and building comfort teaching and learning outside.

Phase Three of the outdoor classroom build out at Washburn Elementary School invited students and teachers outside for a day of learning to become more comfortable with what instruction and curriculum can be without the traditional four walls. Mentor teachers led students and teachers through three different lessons covering, compost, insects and pollinator data, and trees.
