A GARDEN TOUR
We achieved an efficient use of the parking pad and incorporated
this into the landscape design.
Florence tumbled unit pavers were selected as a permeable pavement
treatment for the parking pad as required by the city.
The unit pavers of the parking pad transition to a random flagstone
walkway. The meandering, less formal lines of the walkway creates
a casual, natural flow further emphasized by the irregular line
of the large-boulder planter walls.
The use of the random flagstone, large boulders & planting
bed, softens the hard edges of the streetscape and allowed us
to incorporate a variety of forms & textures into this design.
The boulder wall brings another level to the garden; the green
space is emphasized as the elevated planter brings it up to the
level of the porch. This elevation creates a natural buffer from
the veranda to the street & driveway. The large boulders also
function as ledges for annual displays.
Introduction of the limestone slab steps between the veranda and
the flagstone walkway contribute to the natural flow of this landscape.
The addition of a traditional picket railing to the existing veranda
reclaims the older period of the house.
Planting beds frame the front yard, providing a soft transition
between the veranda and the parking pad. This front yard demonstrates
that the essential inner-city function of front yard parking in
a small front yard can still look beautiful.
