Carver Elementary School 2017-18 Green Schools Quest

March 11, 2018

Our school has been open for three school years, and we are entering into our fourth. I spent the better part of last year trying to get our school to recycle. After a semi successful first attempt helping to better our carbon footprint, I feel like our school is ready to tackle some of the larger issues that we have with regards to waste. I want to see our school find a better way to reduce the amount of food we throw away. I would like to see us switch from using styrofoam plates and plastic silverware for all of our meals. I am concerned about the amount of recyclable items we are still throwing away due to convenience. I want to create a system that will help us reduce our landfill trash, implement a compost system, better utilize our current school garden, and help our students better understand the impact that these changes can have on the future of the planet they are going to live on.

Intended impact of project

Reduced environmental impact
Increased environmental & sustainability literacy
